How NY Real Estate Agent was able to sell $13 million dollars worth of property because of WeChat

In April 2014, New York real estate agent Yue (Emma) Hao from Douglas Elliman, was able to secure a $13 million dollar sale using WeChat. Hao had received a message of interest on the platform from a Shanghai based investor who was interested in a property at the Baccarat Residences in New York.

Through WeChat, she was able to communicate to answer initial questions about the property.

The conversation between the two moved from WeChat to the phone, and by the next day Hao had sold the investor a $10.25 million three bedroom apartment on the 39th floor, and a one-bedroom unit on the 21st floor for just under $3 million.

According to a Wall Street Journal article published in 2014, Hao uses WeChat frequently in her business dealings with Chinese buyers and estimates that she has completed over 7 real estate deals via the Chinese social media platform, a number that is sure to have risen by 2017.
